What is the Mid Level ISEE?
The Independent School Entrance Examination (ISEE) Mid-Level Exam is for 6th and 7th graders who are applying for entrance into grades 7 or 8.
The test is used by prestigious private middle and high schools, as well as by boarding schools to help determine a student's admission qualifications. It consists of verbal and quantitative reasoning questions and an essay. The essay is not included in your test score, but a copy is sent to the schools you request to receive your scores.
If you are interested in taking the ISEE for private school admission, keep in mind that many private schools have more openings for admission at "natural" entrance points- i.e. grades 6 and 9- than for the grades in between. Your chances of admission may improve when applying for these grades.

Who creates the ISEE Mid-Level?

What is a good score on the Mid Level ISEE?
A good score is one that will get you into the school of your choice, so the answer depends on which school you want to attend. While there is not a "passing" score for the ISEE, it is helpful to have an idea of what the average student admitted to your preferred school scores on the test. This will help you determine your score goal. Following are a few reference websites for private schools with contact information so you can find out the average score of students accepted.

Should I use an educational consultant?
Educational consultants advise students in the selection of educational programs. The need for an educational consultant can vary based on the student. Consider starting by arranging a meeting with your counselor as a research base. You can also consult the career services or counseling departments within the schools that you are considering applying to. You may want to find out ahead of time if they charge and what the cost is before committing to a service.
